Type K thermocouples are the standard in Cone Art and most other electric kilns with controllers.

Type K thermocouples are also used with our Digital Pyrometer, and most analog pyrometers.

If the lead wire to your thermocouple(s) is yellow jacketed, then you have type K. If it is another colour, be sure to call the store for advice, as switching back and forth between types K, S, and R could result in a serious over firing of your kiln.

8 gauge thermocouples have ceramic beads that are close to 1/2” in diameter, whereas 14 gauge thermocouples have ceramic beads that are closer to 1/4” diameter.

The 6.5” protection tube is an excellent option for increasing thermocouple life, as well as eliminating delamination of thermocouples (spitting of metal debris onto your kiln shelf).
