Red Iron Oxide is one of the most common colourants in ceramics. Spanish Red Iron Oxide is an economical alternative and produces similar effects to the higher grade Red Iron Oxide. It produces a wide range of earthy glaze colours: brown, yellow, rusty-reds and near-black in oxidation firings. In Reduction firings blue/green celadons to black are produced. Effect will vary based on temperature, concentration, glaze chemistry, etc.
