Kyanite is a grog with low thermal expansion and when added to clay bodies can reduce stress from dry shrinkage. In addition to reducing fired shrinkage, this material increases mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance and allows products to be made with thinner walls as well as providing better resistance to dunting, deformation and chipping. 100 Mesh Kyanite works as a grog but is too fine to feel when throwing.
