Fire Red is a natural, high iron, high temperature stoneware clay blend of a refractory low plastic red clay, a medium temperature medium plastic red clay and a bentonitic ball clay. Fire-Red has medium plasticity, is slightly sandy and by itself is a deep, solid red at cone 10R with speckle. Fire-Red is an excellent addition to high temperature clay bodies to darken their fired color. It will not increase plasticity (and therefore drying issues) and it will not flux the body (making it too vitreous). It contains natural iron pyrite particles that impart attractive speckling in reduction firing. Mined in Canada.
