Embrace the spontaneity of Crawls!
Introducing Crawls, a new cone 5/6 glaze line that will bring ceramic surfaces to life with unique, spontaneous patterns every time! Traditionally seen as a flaw - these glazes are made to embrace glaze crawl. Crawling occurs when the glaze pulls back from the surface during firing, creating a textured, uneven finish that reveals the underlying clay body or other glaze layers. These glazes can be used by themselves or layered over underglazes or other cone 5/6 glazes for dynamic effects.

Apply 1-4 even coats of glaze to cone 04 bisque. Allow each coat to dry almost fully, but before any significant cracking occurs. Crawl glazes will develop hairline cracks as they dry; handle with care. For added durability before firing, layer over an AMACO Celadon glaze or underglaze.

- More coats create larger glaze dots, while thinner coats produce a finer bead effect. Increased coats will produce more cracks. Fire to cone 5-6 for best results.
- These glazes are food safe when layered over AMACO Celadons.
- Layer over stable underglaze or glaze to create a strong base that will improve adhesion and prevent dry cracking.
- Due to variations in raw materials used during manufacturing, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new batch number of glaze.
- Experiment with different tests, adjust glaze thickness, and fine-tuning techniques to discover your ideal glaze result.
- Ideal for larger forms or those with significant surface area
The unpredictability of these glazes is part of the fun, so we recommend embracing it!
