Cobalt Carbonate is a fine particled, lavender powder used as a colourant in glazes and slips. It is the most stable and reliable colorant. Produces various shades of blue when used alone, and will produce the same shades of blue when used in almost every type of glaze. In general, cobalt is a relatively stable colourant in all kiln atmospheres with numerous potential uses. It can be used alone or mixed with other colourants as well as to produce blue slips with white clay bodies. Commonly used in ceramic decals.
NOTE: In its powdered form, cobalt carbonate can cause skin, eye and/or respiratory system irritation. Please use proper precautions, including protective coverings, when working with this substance.
